About the event

Join us for a fascinating talk by entomologist Connor Butler which will mix science, nature, and inclusion to challenge the ideas we often take for granted about what is “natural.” By exploring examples from the natural world, it will show how many of our beliefs about nature and ourselves are shaped by bias.

This thought-provoking event will invite you to look at plants, animals, and people in a new way, and to see how embracing diversity in nature can help us build a fairer, more open-minded society.

More about the speaker:

Connor Butler is a freelance entomologist and educator with a decade of experience connecting people with the natural world. He is the former Head of Learning at London’s oldest botanic garden and has also studied dung beetles across London’s parks. To date, Connor has encouraged over 10,000 people to take time to appreciate the smallest details in nature and to show love for the often unloved species on our planet.

His recent work focusses on “Queer Ecology“, which challenges perceptions of what is considered natural or unnatural and aims to break down the barriers that minority groups face when interacting with nature.

This talk is part of our ongoing programme of members’ events and it’s free for our members. Find out more about our memberships and how to join in our website: https://www.bbcwildlife.org.uk/JoinUs
