Championing Nature: Open Day at Moseley Bog
About the event
Come one, come all, and join us for an Open Day at Moseley Bog & Joy's Wood Local Nature Reserve!
Taking place on Saturday 11th July, 10.00am - 15.00pm, there will be much to enjoy throughout the day, from guided walks to family activities. Every part of the day is entirely free, although some of the walks will have limited places available, so book yours below:
- The Birds of Moseley Bog with Chris Millward - 10.00am - BOOK HERE - Join Chris Millward on a family-friendly guided walk to learn which birds can be found throughout the reserve, with tips on how to identify them through their calls, appearance and behaviour.
- Wildflower Meadow Walk - 13.00-15.00pm - BOOK HERE - Our Conservation Manager, Jake, will lead you on a guided walk taking in all of the reserve's wildflower meadows, with tips on how to identify some of the amazing wildflowers of the UK.
- Meadow Meander - Accessible & Family-friendly - 11.00-12.00pm - BOOK HERE - Join Conservation Manager, Jake, for a family-friendly guided walk around some of the wildflower meadows of Moseley Bog and Joy's Wood. This shorter version of the guided meadow walk will remain on the hardstanding footpaths and does not include any steps.
- ID with iNaturalist - 14.00-15.30pm - BOOK HERE - Biodiversity Data & Evidence Officer, Rachele, will show you how you can use your phone to discover the wildlife around you! This guided walk will take in the reserve's different habitats with tips on how to use the free iNaturalist app to help you identify wildlife.
- ID with iNaturalist - Accessible & Family-friendly - 12.00-13.00pm - BOOK HERE - A family-friendly guided walk around some of the reserve's different habitats led by Biodiversity Data and Evidence Officer, Rachele, with tips on using the iNaturalist app to help you identify wildlife. This shorter vesion of the guided ID walk will remain on the hardstanding footpaths and does not include any steps.
ALL DAY EVENTS - Throughout the day, there will plenty of wild activities and nature-based fun for the entire family:
- Sound baths
- The opportunity to meet author Catherine Barr (Cities Going Wild)
- Children’s nature crafts
- Children’s play space
- Other creative activities for all ages!
This event is taking place as part of our Championing Nature programme, made possible by Wimbledon and Emirates. You can find out more about how we'll be connecting thousands of local people with the wild world on their doorstep here.
For anyone joining us, the reserve has secure bike parking and excellent public transport links. NX West Midlands buses 2 and 3 stop immediately outside, with numbers 11A, 11C and 5 stopping a short distance away. The closest train station is Hall Green, a 15minute walk away.
