The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country is putting on a free day of minibeast hunting at Barr Beacon this Friday and also encouraging people to download a new app to explore the site.

Guy Belding will be leading the minibeast safari and helping people to identify the wildlife that they find on this fascinating site. Parents will be encouraged to take the children round and find beetles, bugs and other residents of the different habitats on this beautiful landmark site.

The session will run from 10am until 3pm and families are encouraged to drop in at any time during the day to learn all about our native wildlife and also make a bug house to take home.

For more fun on the day, the new Barr Beacon App is now live and ready to download for free on to either your iPhone or Android smart phone. This app is your virtual tour guide around Barr Beacon. It tells you what you can see and do. There’s information about the site’s wildlife and history, which you can discover more about when you follow the fun quiz trails.

The app also features a specially designed guide to Barr Beacon’s magnificent panoramic views. Simply raise your phone to the horizon and up will pop the names of features and places in the landscape.

The app’s been developed by Treehouse Media with part of the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve Barr Beacon.

You can download it for iPhones or for Android phones
