The Endless Village Revisited by Peter Shirley

Back to all Books

"The Endless Village" was a pioneering study of the natural history of Birmingham and the Black Country. Here Peter Shirley revisits the original book nearly 30 years on...

The natural heritage of Birmingham and the Black Country is inextricably woven into its social, industrial and cultural heritage. Generations have played, courted and picnicked in the bluebell woods and by the pools and streams of the spaces between their factories and houses. Their families' and communities' histories are etched into the landscape.

Bunny Teagle, in the original work, saw these connections and alerted everyone else to them, and to their significance for people and wildlife. This publication looks at what has happened in the 30 years since Bunny carried out his survey, and how accurate the predictions were.
