#30DaysWild Day 1, Eva - the launch!

Posted: Thursday 1st June 2017 by evaphillips

Each day in June one of our staff, trustees or volunteers will share a WILD experience. Today, Eva, Communications Officer, talks about our local launch

As a new staff member this is my first #30DaysWild - I've been really looking forward to it as a lot of my work since I joined has involved getting ready, getting people signed up and organising opportunities for #RandomActsofWildness. I can't believe we have over 1,000 people across Birmingham and the Black Country taking part - that's incredible!

The launch was brilliant, a perfect sunny day at Centre of the Earth, our Environmental Education Centre in Winson Green.

Nick from Urban Buzz gave a great bee talk in the mini amphitheatre, Emma, our Engagement Officer helped children hunt for minibeasts and gave a hand identifying unusual bugs and Gareth, People and Wildlife Manager, was on hand to help build bird boxes.

It was great to see lots of families who haven't attended one of our events before, even better that they had a great time and will definitely be back!

My son and his friend loved having their picnic in the woodland circle, created as a peaceful space for our health and wellbeing course and to sit round campfires.

I learnt that I am shamefully ignorant about bees that are not honey bees and will be using some of my wildtime in June to rectify this!
