Is there space for Wildlife in the City Centre?
Birmingham City Council is asking all Birmingham residents to tell them their views on proposed cuts. If you value the wildlife and green spaces of Birmingham now is the time to let the Council know. Here's what you can do, and why:
Over the last few years there have been big cuts in Birmingham Council's spending. From a wildlife and conservation point of view the biggest worry has been the big cuts and re-organisation of the City's Ranger Service. We think it's really important to let the Council know that there must not be further cuts to what is left in the budget for caring for parks, open spaces and nature conservation in Birmingham.
The council want to prioritise 'retaining a clean, green and safe city'. Let them know how important wildlife and natural green spaces are as part of a green city - council's understand dealing with litter and graffitti but can forget the importance of wildlife.
The new Eastside City Park will finally provide an important greenspace in the concrete jungle of the city centre - but let the council know the importance of making sure the park makes space for wildlife as well as people.
Is £11.77 million pounds too much to spend on the Eastside Park, when nature reserves and open spaces across the City desperately need investment? Let the Council know which green spaces YOU think deserve this sort of support.
So here are ways of letting the Council know your views:
Online survey at www.birmingham.gov.uk/budgetviews
Send an email to budget_views@birmingham.gov.uk
Tweet your views using the hastag #brumbudget12
Text a message to 07786 200 403 starting with the word 'Budget' followed by a space.
Write to Budget Views, Room B119, Council House, Victoria Square, Birmingham B1 1BB
What counts is letting the council know your views, but we would appreciate it if you can let us know what you have said by emailing info@bbcwildlife.org.uk
Thank you for speaking up for your local wildlife!
