Walsall Arboretum Hedgerow Restoration

Within Walsall Arborerum the hedgerows have become over grown due to lack of management over many years. In order to rejuvenate these areas the plan was to coppice the hedges, retaining a few healthy selected trees (oak standards in the main, plus the odd mature hawthorn) and plant up any gaps with hawthorn transplants.

The coppice work was completed in January 2014 and the gapping up of hedge row was completed in March 2014. Walsall Countryside volunteers completed one task day assisting in hedge planting / gapping up on the 11th March 2014.

This project was part of an NIA objective to enhance the value of existing habitats in the Birmingham and Black Country area.
