Bird box makingBird box making

The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country is putting on a free day of bird box making at Barr Beacon this Saturday to teach new skills and ensure more feathered friends are cared for in Walsall.

Tom Hartland Smith will be demonstrating how to make the boxes and also teaching families how to make them for themselves on this beautiful landmark site.

The session will run from 10am until 3pm and families are encouraged to drop in at any time during the day to learn all about our native wildlife and also make a bird box to take home.

For more fun on the day, the new Barr Beacon App is now live and ready to download for free on to either your iPhone or Android smart phone. This app is your virtual tour guide around Barr Beacon. It tells you what you can see and do. There’s information about the site’s wildlife and history, which you can discover more about when you follow the fun quiz trails.

The app also features a specially designed guide to Barr Beacon’s magnificent panoramic views. Simply raise your phone to the horizon and up will pop the names of features and places in the landscape.

The app’s been developed by Treehouse Media with part of the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve Barr Beacon.

You can download it for iPhones https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/barr-beacon-local-nature-reserve/id992805195 or for Android phones: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.treehouse_media.Barr_Beacon
