Local beauty spot Moseley Bog and Joy’s Wood Nature Reserve is hosting a Big Lunch on Sunday 7th June, which promises to be a wild, family-friendly feast.

Starting at 11am and running until 3pm, The Big Lunch at Moseley Bog will be offering the chance to take part in a range of fun activities for all the family, as well as being a great opportunity to learn more about your local wildlife while meeting and sharing food with friends old and new. There will even be a chance to take part in a zumbathon between 11.30am and 1pm.

Georgia Stokes, Chief Executive of The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country, says: “We are really excited about hosting The Big Lunch at Moseley Bog and Joy’s Wood. As well as looking after the site for wildlife, we aim to introduce the pleasure of visiting places like this to many more people.

“Moseley Bog was voted as Britain’s top hidden gem last year, which is a lovely accolade, but we really want it to be a resource for the community and appreciated by everyone, so that they become active in looking after it, too.

It will be a fun and friendly day. Bring food to share with others and a picnic blanket. You’ll be among friends new and old, and have a chance of a bit of a dance at the zumbathon. We’ll be wildlife spotting too and there will be fun activities for children of all ages.”

Walks around the reserve to show the beauty of this wonderful site are planned as part of the day, as well as fun activities for all the family and a chance to see the official opening of the beautiful new entrance gates linking the bog to Sarehole Mill. The main activities will be taking place in the new meadow area near the Pensby Close entrance. For more information see our events page.

The Big Lunch was originally created in 2009 at the Eden Project, Cornwall, and is now an annual event which is held all over the country. Everyone is welcome to come, but as for any informal picnic with friends, you’re asked to bring food and blankets to sit on for the lunch. This is a great chance to meet people through a shared love of food and nature.
