The Big Lunch at Moseley Bog and Joy's Wood

Posted: Monday 20th June 2016 by JessK

On a gloriously sunny June 5th a fantastic day of food, fun and friendship was had by all with wonderfully wild storytelling, walks, crafts and games.

In the magnificent sunshine on Sunday 5th June our annual Big Lunch event was hosted at Moseley Bog and Joy’s Wood as part of the 30 Days Wild challenge this month! The day was a huge success with many families and local residents old and new attending to picnic on the grassy meadow, join in with the variety of wonderfully wild activities the day had to offer, and learn about the site’s special wildlife.

The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project created in 2009 which is a one day get-together happening all around the country encouraging neighbours to come together for an afternoon of food, friendship and fun. Everyone is welcome to come and the event is free but you’re asked to bring snacks to add to the Big Lunch.

A fantastic day was had all round! Walks around the Moseley Bog and Joy’s Wood reserve were an extremely popular part of the day where everyone was able to spot wildlife and experience the beauty of the area. Saved from development the site became a nature reserve and now supports a tremendous variety of flora and fauna harbouring locally rare species, despite only being situated 3 miles from the city centre! Family and friends also enjoyed wild storytelling and songs, a bee survey by our resident expert, and wildlife crafts and games. Pictures of the day are below!

Don’t forget the 30 Days Wild challenge – can you do something wild every day this June?

Join us next year for a big lunch and even bigger fun filled day!
